Natural Gas Analyst – Houston or New York

We are currently partnered with the gas trading team at a leading commodity trading firm with a global reputation and presence.

You will have the chance to work with physical and financial traders, understanding regional markets, projecting forward supply and demand balances, and interacting with other team members to generate trading concepts.

Responsibilities will include data acquisition, model building and maintenance, communication of key fundamentals viewpoints to various audiences, and ad hoc requests

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Organization and presentation of fundamental data, working with traders to discover relationships between different fundamental factors and scrutinize trading concepts

  • Construct scenario analysis to support trading decisions and evaluate risks to firm positions

  • The candidate will perform fundamental analyses of the natural gas markets and run simulation models to generate trade ideas for the North American markets.

  • Assist in the development of regional basis models within North America and/or global models. This should include daily automation and scenario distributions

  • Develop tools for option pricing and analysis for both the US and global markets

  • Support the power and gas traders with profit and loss reporting, including developing new tools.

Job Requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the North American natural gas markets

  • The candidate would ideally have experience in fundamental analysis of US natural gas and power markets, with some exposure to ERCOT. However, prior experience in a trading, risk, or research role in natural gas, commodities, or other financial markets is also desirable. Additional qualifications include experience applying economic analysis to trading decisions and strong technical skills.

  • Experience building models and frameworks used to evaluate key business or trading decisions.

  • Familiarity with pipeline nomination data, EIA natural gas dataset, weather data,

  • Programming experience with Visual Basic, Python, R or other relevant programming languages preferred.

  • Experience using data integration software such as Power BI, Tableau and/or SQL.
