Malaysia & Philippines Economist - Investment Bank - Kuala Lumpur
Are you an experienced economist with expertise in Malaysia and the Philippines? A respected investment bank based in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a skilled Macro Economist to deliver in-depth analysis and provide valuable insights to shape investment strategies across key ASEAN markets. This role offers the chance to focus on fast-growing economies while working closely with a collaborative team in a dynamic and supportive environment.
The Role:
Conduct macroeconomic research with a primary focus on Malaysia and the Philippines, while supporting coverage of other ASEAN economies when required.
Analyse key economic trends, fiscal and monetary policies, and geopolitical factors affecting regional markets.
Develop concise, actionable research reports to guide the bank’s investment strategies and support internal decision-making.
Collaborate with stakeholders, including traders and portfolio managers, to align research with business objectives.
Present findings to internal teams and clients, contributing to the bank’s reputation as a trusted regional player.
What We’re Looking For:
5–10 years of experience in macroeconomic research, with a specific focus on Malaysia and/or the Philippines.
Strong knowledge of ASEAN economies, with familiarity in markets like Indonesia or Thailand being an advantage.
Fluency in Bahasa (Malay or Indonesian) is highly desirable.
Advanced degree in Economics or a related field (Master’s required, PhD is an advantage).
Previous experience in an investment bank, financial institution, or government organization is preferred.
Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex economic data into practical insights.
